"As an Indian, working with Kala cotton—a cotton strain indigenous to the subcontinent—has always been deeply personal for me. It’s a material that carries so much memory, tied to the land, to our ancestors, to the hands of women who spun and knit before us. When I think of Meetra, from Pakistan, and how our stories, divided by borders, are still intertwined by this land, this cotton, and our collective history, it feels like our collaboration is much more than just a creative project.

Creating the hand-knit cotton bookmarks to accompany Standard Deviation felt like an extension of that conversation. Her poems speak to loss, love, and those liminal spaces where memory lingers, and I wanted the bookmarks to feel like tangible reflections of that—threads that connect her words to the reader in a physical way. For me, this project is about more than just art or craft; it’s about community, about friendship, and about honoring the invisible labor, grief, and resilience embedded in the work we do.

Together, our collaboration speaks to the shared experiences of our cultures, the untold stories of women’s work, and the healing that comes from acknowledging the histories we carry. It’s a celebration of the threads that unite us, even across borders, and a reminder that love and community can be woven into even the smallest, most intimate of objects."
